The Kinsmen Foundation was established in 1971 and granted funds raised by local Kinsmen and Kinette clubs. When requests for assistance far exceeded available funds, planning started in 1976 for a province-wide telethon as a major fundraiser and the first Telemiracle was staged in Saskatoon in February 1977.
Today, the Kinsmen Foundation provides special needs equipment and access to medical assistance to Saskatchewan residents to improve quality of life and independence. Financial assistance is provided to:
- Individuals for special needs equipment or travel assistance to access medical treatment;
- Group homes for special needs equipment; and
- Institutions and health foundations to purchase specialized, new or innovative equipment to improve health care.
