Telemiracle Week Declared! Print this Article   |   Back To Top

On May 19th, 2006, the Telemiracle Act was passed by the members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan and received Royal Assent by Her Hon. Dr. Lynda Haverstock.

A private members bill introduced by Elwin Hermanson, the member for Rosetown-Elrose, declares the week leading up to Telemiracle each year will now be declared as Telemiracle Week.

“The Kinsmen Foundation has turned Telemiracle into an institution and fund-raising phenomenon that is recognized throughout the province and beyond our boarders,” Hermanson said.  He continued, “Telemiracle brings out the best of Saskatchewan – it highlights the strength of our volunteer sector, the generosity of our people and the depth of care for those who need our help.  I am proud the Legislative Assembly has seen fit to recognize the hard work and dedication of the more than 1000 volunteer Kinsmen and Kinettes by declaring Telemiracle Week every year.  After all, it is their selfless contributions to this province and our people that have touched the lives of so many individuals.”

We could not agree more!  Tammy Blackwell, the Telemiracle 31 Public Relations Chair responded, “We graciously accept the honour being bestowed on Telemiracle.  To have this recognition from the Provincial Government for Telemiracle exemplifies that Telemiracle truly belongs to the People of Saskatchewan.  We celebrate this together.”

Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation Gives $1.25 Million Print this Article   |   Back To Top

The Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation on Ocotber 1, 2009, announced a $1.25 million donation to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation to establish an Electrophysiology (EP) Lab in the Mosaic Heart Centre located at the Regina General Hospital. The Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation Electrophysiology Lab will fulfill an urgent need to provide electrophysiology services to the people of southern Saskatchewan.

“Thanks to the many donations received at Telemiracle, the Kinsmen Foundation is able to continue making miracles for the people of Saskatchewan and their families," says Charlene Duckworth, Board Chair of the Kinsmen Foundation. “We are thrilled to be able to make a donation of $1.25 million to complete this final and important phase of the Mosaic Heart Centre.”

Electrophysiology deals with problems related to the electrical activity of the heart. The new EP Lab will diagnose and treat abnormal heart rhythms, otherwise known as “arrhythmias,” which are life-threatening. Last year, approximately 700 patients were admitted to the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region (RQHR) for atrial fibrillation, the most common type of arrhythmia.

Currently, Regina does not have an EP program or an EP specialist, so patients in southern Saskatchewan who require diagnosis and treatment for arrhythmias are often given lifelong medication, which is insufficient treatment, or they are sent out of province for EP services.

Judy Davis, CEO, HRF, says “This is an extraordinary gift from the Kinsmen. We couldn’t be more grateful. It was the 2006 major gift from The Mosaic Company in support of cardiac services that established the Mosaic Heart Centre. The facility has excelled as a leader in its field and the addition of an EP Lab will bring the Mosaic Heart Centre full circle. The Kinsmen Foundation and their supporters should be proud that their gift will impact so many people across southern Saskatchewan.”

Dr. George Garbe, Section Head of Cardiology for RQHR, says, “Heart rhythm abnormalities are a major cause of death and disability in heart patients. The development of an EP Lab in Regina will help us to recruit highly trained sub specialists in this field who will be instrumental in the management of these patients. The lab will provide an environment for the prompt provision of state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment procedures vital to the survival and wellbeing of these patients.”

Kinsmen Foundation Donates $66,000 to Lloydminster Region Health Foundation Print this Article   |   Back To Top

The Kinsmen Foundation has recently donated $66,000 to Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, which will be used to purchase a “Point of Care” mobile ultrasound unit for the Emergency Department in Lloydminster Hospital. The Kinsmen Foundation, a volunteer led organization, raises funds at Telemiracle. Proceeds from this renowned fundraiser are used to help purchase special needs equipment and access to medical assistance.

Thanks to the generosity of the Kinsmen Foundation, the Point of Care mobile ultrasound unit is now a reality in our extremely busy Emergency Department. Quite literally, this unit will revolutionize the timeliness and efficiency of care that can be provided every day in the Emergency Department in Lloydminster Hospital.

The ultrasound unit offers a new, remarkable, way for physicians to quickly assess a patient during their most critical moments. The portable ultrasound is designed to allow for quick analysis and decision making, and as Dr. Mark Chapelski, Chief of Staff at Lloydminster Hospital, attests, speediness is of the essence when it comes to saving lives. “We are so thankful for the Kinsmen Foundation’s generous donation. Physicians are able to use the portable ultrasound unit every single day in Emergency, and we see first hand the way it helps improve efficiencies in patient care and diagnoses. We are ever grateful for their gift. It truly helps us save lives”.

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to improve patient care for Lloydminster and area residents by funding the portable ultrasound machine.” says Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation Executive Director Joan Steckhan. “Thanks to the generosity of the people of Saskatchewan and in particular the strong support received from the Lloydminster area, the Kinsmen Foundation is able to provide new and innovative equipment such as this.

“This gift is truly working immediately to save lives in our community”, notes LRHF Executive Director Georgina Altman. “With over 34,000 visits to our Emergency Department last year alone, we know that this portable ultrasound unit will help our physicians make accurate, timely diagnoses, and often, save lives. Thank you to the Kinsmen Foundation, who once again, make a difference to our community”

Telemiracle 34 Cast Print this Article   |   Back To Top

Kinsmen Telemiracle is pleased to announce our cast for Telemiracle 34. This year’s cast is a great combination of old favourites and some great new talent to our stage!

Returning to the cast are BOB McGRATH and BEVERLEY MAHOOD, along with Saskatcheawn favourites ANDREA MENARD, BRAD JOHNER, SHELDON BERGSTROM and DONNY PARENTEAU.

GEORGE CANYON, MICHAEL KAESHAMMER, and THE NORTHERN PIKES are among the headliners who are part of Telemiracle 34. Country artist VICTORIA BANKS and fiddler extraordinaire, SIERRA NOBLE joined Canadian Idol participants MATT RAPPLEY and CARLY RAE JEPSEN to fill our multitalented and diverse cast.

We are pleased to welcome GEORGE CANYON to the cast this year. Canyon is a country neo-traditionalist par excellence, producing music situated somewhere between the bright and studio-tooled Nashville ideal and something a little older, with a voice that can soar with emotion or linger in a heavy bottom-end.

A piano playing jazz prodigy as a teenager, MICHAEL KAESHAMMER has matured into a singer and songwriter of real skill and creative imagination. His musical style and passion for people will endear him to our audience!

The NORTHERN PIKE’S music, poignant lyrics and vocal harmonizing still sound as fresh and innovative today as it did when they first appeared on the scene in the 80s. As Saskatchewan boys with global talent, we are pleased to welcome them to their first performance on Telemiracle.

Most importantly, this cast will be joined by 53 performances presented by people from across Saskatchewan! For a complete list of these performers, please see our webpage at www.telemiracle.com under “Saskatchewan Performers”.

The Kinsmen Foundation makes miracles by providing Saskatchewan people and organizations with special needs equipment and access to medical assistance. Through Telemiracle dollars, the Kinsmen Foundation is able to gift, for example, mobility equipment, travel costs to get to medical facilities, community vans, and equipment in hospitals and health centres.
