The People in Our Neighbourhood

Support for Kinsmen Telemiracle is astounding. Every year at Telemiracle, thousands of people join together to raise millions of dollars for friends, neighbours and family faced with unique challenges. That shows an enormous amount of commitment, dedication and love.

 

There’s one group of Telemiracle supporters who start planning their gifts long before the show. Sometimes the gifts are made during the donor’s lifetime; at other times, they’re planned for after the donor’s death. In addition to truly making life better for so many people with special needs in Saskatchewan, these supporters are helping themselves as well by realizing some valuable tax benefits. At Telemiracle this year, planned gifts ranged in value from $1,000 to $600,000. They came from all over the province and for a wide variety of reasons.

 

 

Marion Hines enjoyed watching Telemiracle for many years. She loved to see the vast amount of talent that exists right here in Saskatchewan. And she especially liked to share in the miracles that Telemiracle donations are able to create. Her nephew Scott MacQuarrie presented her planned gift of $1,000 to Beverley Mahood this year. He commented how much he appreciated that the Kinsmen Foundation “values the gift of giving by the residents of Saskatchewan, regardless of the individual amounts.”

 

 

 

Telemiracle held a very special place in Janice Harms’ heart. Every year, she was thrilled to meet the cast when they visited Cosmopolitan Industries, where she worked. There was no doubt that Bob McGrath was her favourite. Whenever Telemiracle was staged in Saskatoon, she and her friends claimed front row seats at TCU Place. Janice’s family supported her love for Telemiracle this year with a planned gift of $1,000, knowing that donations made to the Kinsmen Foundation will create miracles for Janice’s friends and co-workers – at work and at home.

 

 

Wayne Jackson was a Kinsmen and volunteer at many Telemiracles. He had a special passion for helping others, especially children. As a member of the Telemiracle 24 Committee, Wayne’s proud moment came at the end of the show. After months of planning, weeks of hard work and a weekend with no sleep, he looked at the final figure for the year, turned to the chairman and said, “We helped a lot of people, didn’t we?” In Wayne’s memory, his mother Patricia bequeathed $10,000 to Telemiracle in her will. 

 

 

Charlie Hamilton’s gift of $90,000 came with a story of compassion. In 1966, long before Telemiracle, Charlie was working with a water well drilling outfit. He was in a very serious accident and spent nearly two years recovering. His own experience made him appreciate the hardships of the people he saw on Telemiracle each year. His gift was his way of helping people who need a miracle.

 

 

In addition to these, another 13 planned gifts were received at Telemiracle this year, contributing over $1,000,000 of the Telemiracle total of $4,010,314. All these planned gifts will be used to provide residents of Saskatchewan with specialized equipment, medical travel, and access to the help they need. There are so many reasons to plan a gift … to make miracles happen in Saskatchewan.
